Schemes that apply in Chandigarh

One central scheme and the Union Territory's own rules. Amounts and dates can change, so each card links to its source.

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana

Central assistance for rooftop solar on homes: ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW, capped at ₹78,000. It needs DCR modules and an application on the national portal.

  • 1 kW ₹30,000
  • 2 kW ₹60,000
  • 3 kW or more ₹78,000

Housing societies and resident welfare associations get ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities, up to 500 kW at 3 kW per house.

Chandigarh gets the general-category amounts, the same as Punjab and Haryana. A Lok Sabha reply confirmed ₹78,000 for a 3 kW home. The scheme runs until March 2027 (FY 2026-27). Check the portal for any extension.

Rooftop solar mandate

Rooftop solar has been mandatory for houses on plots of 500 sq yd and above since 2016, and for government, institutional and commercial buildings. Extending it to smaller plots has been proposed.

If your plot is covered, the plant is part of the building rules, and the Administration has sent notices for houses that did not comply. Check the current bylaws for the plot-size threshold before you plan.

Extra help from the Administration

No extra Chandigarh subsidy on top of the central amount is confirmed. The Administration has been reported to have asked the Ministry of Home Affairs for one in late 2025, and we found no approval.

Not confirmed: availability can only be checked with the agency.

Do not count on it. Ask CREST or CPDL before you rely on any Union Territory top-up.

Net metering in Chandigarh, step by step

The connection is approved by CPDL, under JERC rules. The tag on each step says who does it.

  1. Wesics

    Survey and size

We measure the roof, map shade, read your bills and check your sanctioned load. You get an itemised quote and a 3D layout.

  2. Wesics

    File with CPDL

We file the net-metering application with CPDL. For PM Surya Ghar the application also starts on the national portal.

  3. DISCOM

    Feasibility and approval

CPDL checks that your connection can take the plant and approves the application. Timelines are set by the DISCOM and JERC. See the reported rules below, and ask us for the current expectation.

  4. Wesics

    Install to the approved design

Our crew installs the modules, structure, cables, earthing and protection to the approved design.

  5. DISCOM

    Inspection and meter

CPDL inspects the plant and fits or approves a bi-directional meter.

  6. You

    Commissioning and subsidy claim

The plant is commissioned and the meter starts counting both ways. With PM Surya Ghar, commissioning is what lets the subsidy claim go through.

  • The Ministry of Power asked states and Union Territories in October 2025 to drop the separate net-metering agreement for PM Surya Ghar and use the digital agreement in the portal application. We could not confirm that JERC or CPDL has issued a matching change. SolarQuarter, 6 Oct 2025(opens in a new tab)
