Who supplies your power, who sets the rules, which schemes apply, and how net metering runs in Punjab. Each point links to the official source.

  1. Punjab, at a glance.
  2. PSPCL supplies your power and connects your plant to the grid.
  3. PSERC sets the tariff and net-metering rules. PEDA runs the state's solar programmes.
  4. PM Surya Ghar, PM‑KUSUM and Punjab's free units sit on top.

Schemes that apply in Punjab

Two central schemes and what we know of the state. Amounts and dates can change, so each card links to its source.

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana

Central assistance for rooftop solar on homes: ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW, capped at ₹78,000. It needs DCR modules and an application on the national portal.

  • 1 kW ₹30,000
  • 2 kW ₹60,000
  • 3 kW or more ₹78,000

Housing societies and resident welfare associations get ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities, up to 500 kW at 3 kW per house.

The amounts are the same in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. The scheme runs until March 2027 (FY 2026-27). Check the portal for any extension.

PM‑KUSUM solar pumps

Stand-alone solar pumps (component B): PEDA lists about 60 percent subsidy for the general category (about 30 percent central plus about 30 percent state) and about 80 percent for Scheduled Castes (30 percent central plus 50 percent state). The farmer pays the balance, about 40 percent for the general category. The last Punjab window ran from 9 September 2024 to 31 August 2025. PEDA states that the ministry closed PM‑KUSUM 1.0 on 31 December 2025 and that new allocations follow the launch of PM‑KUSUM 2.0. No pump window is open now.

We tell you when a new window opens. Confirm the current position with PEDA before you plan around a subsidy.

Free units for homes

Press reports say Punjab gives 300 free units a month (600 per two-month bill) for domestic connections, continued in the 2026-27 tariff; if a two-month bill goes over 600 units the whole bill is charged, except for SC, BC, BPL and freedom-fighter households. Our savings estimates leave it out, so a home that already uses mostly free units saves less on energy with solar.

Read your own bills before you size a plant, and confirm the rule with PSPCL. We found no Punjab state top-up on the PM Surya Ghar subsidy.

Net metering in Punjab, step by step

The connection is approved by PSPCL, under PSERC rules. The tag on each step says who does it.

  1. Wesics

    Survey and size

We measure the roof, map shade, read your bills and check your sanctioned load. You get an itemised quote and a 3D layout.

  2. Wesics

    File with PSPCL

We file the net-metering application with PSPCL. For PM Surya Ghar the application also starts on the national portal.

  3. DISCOM

    Feasibility and approval

PSPCL checks that your connection can take the plant and approves the application. Timelines are set by the DISCOM and PSERC. See the reported rules below, and ask us for the current expectation.

  4. Wesics

    Install to the approved design

Our crew installs the modules, structure, cables, earthing and protection to the approved design.

  5. DISCOM

    Inspection and meter

PSPCL inspects the plant and fits or approves a bi-directional meter.

  6. You

    Commissioning and subsidy claim

The plant is commissioned and the meter starts counting both ways. With PM Surya Ghar, commissioning is what lets the subsidy claim go through.

Which DISCOM serves you

PSPCL Whole state

Serves the whole of Punjab. PSTCL is the separate transmission company.
